MECHANISM OF ACTION
PANCREATIC DIGESTIVE ENZYMES possess enzymatic activity specific for fat, protein, and carbohydrate. Extra amounts of lipase, specific for breakdown of dietary fat, are included. Tablet disintegration is carefully controlled to quickly release contents upon reaching the small intestine, thus avoiding destruction of enzymes by gastric acid.
HUMAN EXPERIENCE
Traditionally, supplemental pancreatic enzyme preparations are provided to individuals with pancreatic exocrine deficiency such as chronic pancreatitis and cystic fibrosis who experience steatorrhea (increased amount of fat in the stool), which occurs from inadequate fat absorption. The delivery of sufficient enzyme concentrations into the duodenal lumen simultaneously with meals was shown to reduce nutrient malabsorption, improve the symptoms of steatorrhea, and in some cases alleviate the pain associated with chronic pancreatitis.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
PANCREATIC DIGESTIVE ENZYMES should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation.
INTERACTIONS
No significant drug interactions between PANCREATIC DIGESTIVE ENZYMES and prescription remedies have been described.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
Mild abdominal discomfort has been described upon rare occasions after consumption of PANCREATIC DIGESTIVE ENZYMES. This product should not be used by individuals allergic to pork.

PREBIOTIC
Microflora Essentials
Prebiotics are defined as non-digestible food ingredients that beneficially
affect the host by selectively stimulating the growth and/or activity of one or
a limited number of beneficial bacteria in the colon and enhance
gastrointestinal and systemic immune functions.
PREBIOTIC microbial base™ combines chicory
inulin and oligofructose, highly effective prebiotics, with the immunomodulating
actions of larch arabinogalactan and purified yeast beta-glucan.
Chicory-derived inulin and oligofructose are inulin-type fructans best known for
their ability to sustain increases in populations of
Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, and
Eubacterium, an important
butyrate-producing species indigenous to the bowel. In addition, inulin-type
fructans promote normal colon transit times, enhance absorption of calcium and
magnesium, favorably modulate lipid levels, and improve gut mucosal barrier and
immune functions.
Arabinogalactan, a polysaccharide derived from the Western Larch tree, is a
highly soluble dietary fiber that enhances immune function by promoting cytokine
production and increasing the number of natural killer cells. Arabinogalactan is
metabolized to short-chain fatty acids acetate, butyrate, and propionate and
reduces ammonia production.
Beta-glucan, a glucose polysaccharide prebiotic
fiber, has broad, beneficial effect on immune function through enhancement of
monocytes, macrophages, and natural killer cells.

MAGNOLIA BARK EXTRACT
SOURCE AND CHEMICAL
COMPOSITION
MAGNOLIA BARK EXTRACT is a powdered extract
from the bark of cultivated
Magnolia officinalis. The identified biologically active ingredients
from magnolia bark extract include magnolol (5,5'-Diallyl-2,2'-biphenyldiol) and
honokiol [2-(4-hydroxy-3-prop-2-enyl-phenyl)- 4-prop-2-enyl-phenol].
MECHANISM OF ACTION
It has been demonstrated that magnolol and
honokiol inhibit acetylcholine and calcium triggered smooth muscle contraction.
In addition, both components possess anti-inflammatory, analgesic and broad
spectrum antibiotic activity. Honokiol and to a lesser degree magnolol
demonstrate antidepressant and anti-seizure activity via interaction with GABAA
reseptors.
HUMAN EXPERIENCE
MAGNOLIA BARK has been used for centuries
as a traditional Chinese medicine to treat abdominal discomfort and chest
tightness. Limited clinical trials indicate that magnolia bark extract may
benefit individuals with spastic colon and bronchospasm. The supplement has also
been used to help individuals with mood disorders.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
MAGNOLIA BARK EXTRACT should be avoided
during pregnancy and lactation.
INTERACTIONS
Based on the mechanism of its biological
activities, MAGNOLIA BARK EXTRACT may potentially interfere with atropine and
atropine-like substances (muscarinic receptors antagonists), beta-blockers,
narcotic analgesics, gabapentin, pregabalin and antidepressants.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
Chronic administration of MAGNOLIA BARK
EXTRACT at inappropriately high amounts potentially may be associated with
constipation and excessive somnolence.
TOXICOLOGY
MAGNOLIA BARK EXTRACT is characterized by
an excellent acute and chronic toxicity profiles. Rare reports regarding
magnolia bark toxicity were due to the low quality of the products and their
contamination with toxic substances.
