Bone Support

Restorative Remedies offers several products to support bone density -- including strontium citrate, calcium malate-citrate, and vitamin D3. Studies show that a carefully administered regimen that alternates doses between strontium and a combination of calcium and vitamin D results in more effective bone-building than is presently achieved through many prescription programs.

BONE DENSITY
STRONTIUM CITRATE

Source and Chemical Composition
Strontium is an earth element which is used for human consumption in the forms of various salts. One of its salts, strontium ranelate, is a prescription drug in Europe for the treatment of osteoporosis.

Mechanism of Action
In experimental models, strontium was shown to possess bone anabolic activity via increase in preosteoblast replication, osteoblast differentiation, collagen type I synthesis and bone matrix mineralization. Paralleling these anabolic effects, there is inhibition of osteoclast differentiation and activity and enhanced osteoclast apoptosis. The overall effect is a rebalanced bone turnover in favour of improved bone geometry, cortical thickness, trabecular bone morphology and intrinsic bone tissue quality, which translates into enhanced bone strength.

Human Experience
Numerous clinical trials demonstrated that strontium administration in postmenopausal women enhances their bone density and reduces the risk of vertebral and hip fractures.

Pregnancy and Lactation
Strontium should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation.

Interactions
Based on the potential interference of strontium with calcium and vitamin D metabolism it is advisable to take calcium and vitamin D concurrently with strontium (several hours apart though).

Adverse Reactions
Chronic administration of strontium in children is associated with the development of rickets. This has not been reported in adults with mature skeleton. Potential adverse effects are mainly limited to allergic reactions. Consumption of strontium should be avoided in patients with impaired kidney function.

Toxicology
Chronic administration of strontium at recommended doses is characterized by low toxicity, carcinogenicity, or teratogenicity.

Calcium Citrate-Malate
Organic, Highly Absorbable

Calcium citrate-malate is an easily absorbed and well-tolerated form of calcium. Calcium is an essential mineral required for healthy bone formation.

Calcium bound to natural fruit acids called citric acid and malic acid results in the calcium compound, calcium citrate-malate. This form of calcium has been shown to have a superior benefit compared to many calcium supplements as it allows for 40% more calcium absorption than calcium carbonate or milk. Calcium citrate- malate is easily digested and absorbed equally well with or without food.

Calcium is the basic bone-building mineral required by the body. Adequate calcium intake every day, over
a lifetime, is important for maintaining sufficient bone density as we age and reducing risk for osteoporosis, a progressive bone disease leading to fragile, porous bones. Risk for osteoporosis is also influenced by age, sex, race, exercise, and many other dietary and lifestyle choices. Calcium
citrate-malate is suitable for those individuals seeking a reliable, cost-effective source of calcium to enhance dietary intake. This product should be used in conjuction with a healthy diet and
exercise program.

VITAMIN D3
Active Form of D3

These vegetarian capsules supply a high-potency amount of natural vitamin D, called D3. This fat soluble vitamin occurs naturally in only a few foods, thus is often fortified in milk and other products. Vitamin D can also be formed in the body upon adequate exposure of the skin to sunlight. Its major biological function is to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus to form and maintain strong bones. Vitamin D also works with a number of other vitamins, minerals and hormones to promote bone mineralization, glucose metabolism, neuromuscular function, and overall health.

When intake of vitamin D is below recommended levels or exposure to sunlight is limited, deficiencies can result. Poor absorption and impaired kidney function can also compromise vitamin D status.
• Vitamin D3 and Osteoporosis: Research estimates that over 25 million adults in the United States are at risk of developing osteoporosis, a condition characterized by fragile bones and bone fractures. Low levels of vitamin D may contribute to bones becoming thin and brittle.
• Vitamin D3and Sun exposure: Individuals who live in northern regions, those who are homebound such as the elderly, individuals with darker skin, and those who use sunscreens often have limited sun exposure or reduced ability to make vitamin D and are likely in need of supplementation.
• Vitamin D3 and Toxicity: Although massive amounts of vitamin D can be toxic, supplementing with 1,000 IU is well within safe recommendations for those with little sun exposure, malabsorption conditions or who are at risk for osteoporosis.

Vitamin D3 can be taken by anyone who does not get enough sun or is concerned about getting adequate vitamin D. This product may be combined with a daily multiple vitamin supplement, which typically supplies vitamin D at RDA levels of 400 I.U. per day.

This product was made in a GMP and ISO 9001:2000 registered facility.
